TRU64 has been gaining steam lately... check this
out.
Unfortunately Intel recently acquired the digital group from Compaq
and it also seems that HP is merging with Compaq...
What dose all this mean? It means that several years ago when Intel
first started working on there IA64 platform (with HP), they eliminated
HP's PA-RISC platform... (1 down), now it seems that they have done
the same to a second 64bit competitor (the alpha). With two competitors
down and only two real chips to go (IBM and SUN's) it looks bleak
for those who would like an alternative to the so far dismally performing
IA64. With AIX5L running native IA64 code also, it appears that
IBM's strategy will be to scale back on there own PowerPC based
lines :(
